Herilino's Locker

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Andie loved meeting Matt yesterday! And Jason and Kristin loved the wonderful food he delivered! To make up for all the excitement when visitors are here, Andie makes sure to catch a nap wherever she can. Andie turned 6 weeks old yesterday! To celebrate, Dr. Sarah brought us some delicious dinner. Today, as usual, she's spent lots of time being adorable. Here she is yawning and winking: And here she is smiling: She's the best!

Andie feels like marine science royalty in this ocean-y baby swing, which has been previously occupied by many esteemed marine lab babies.

Andie made her first appearance at the marine lab today to attend her first scientific presentation and to congratulate Sarah on completing her dissertation.

Andie got to meet fellow baby Shayne for the first time this week. She thanked him for all the snazzy, hand-me-down clothes he has grown out of and all of the other wonderful baby gear he passed along to her. Uncle Chuck visited us this week for some R and R in the form of ocean viewing and baby cuddling. Henry and Nancy generously brought us more delicious food, and Nancy finally generously allowed Henry to hold Andie instead of hogging the baby snuggles all to herself. Andie sported her "Scuba Baby" onesie in Henry's honor, but wasn't too keen on showing it off. (Thanks Steve and Cecil!) Andie has spent much of the past week perfecting the skills of tracking objects and turning toward sounds, both of which she expertly demonstrates in the following video. She loves looking at the decals in her room, especially the pirate ship above her crib.

Andie got to see Ben again yesterday and meet Bree for the first time. Today, she is one month old! She made some happy faces for her one month birthday: She also took some nice naps. And she hung out with big brother, Hawkeye. She is currently the same length as her plush squid. It seems like an ideal growth metric moving forward.

Since Andie had her first bath in a tub last night, we thought today we'd introduce her to the world's biggest bathtub, the Pacific. Blind Beach, Goat Rock Beach State Park She also had her first trip to The Boat House. And she got to sit at the same table where Kristin and Jason had their first date. If you look closely  all the way to the left  at the photo collage on the wall you can see Jason in hard hat dive gear.

Andie met Uncle Joe and Auntie Sue yesterday. It was wonderful to have them visit, and we wish they could have stayed longer! They brought some delicious Kalua Pork and lemon bars, and even made a run to Wild Flour Bread this morning for some breakfast treats! Andie had her first bath in her infant tub last night, and she loved it! She lost her umbilical cord stump a little over a week ago, so she can finally submerge her cute little belly button. She's clearly well on her way to dive training!

Andie took her first bottle of expressed milk today. Jason is excited about this because it means he can feed Andie, and Kristin is excited about this because it means she might be able to sleep through occasional late-night feedings. Andie also spent time today enjoying a fancy new bouncer she got yesterday -- thanks for the suggestion, Ashley! Jill generously brought Kristin and Jason dinner tonight, and she also brought her delightful baby boy over to meet Andie. It was Andie's first official encounter with a fellow baby. She was very impressed with his crawling and standing, and thinks her parents should probably consider some baby-proofing before she gets to be so mobile.
