Fetching

Andie and Hawkeye continue to be best buds. One of their favorite times spent together is mealtime, when they like to get messy together. Hawkeye has been trying to teach Andie to play fetch ever since she was born, and she finally seems to be getting the hang of it: She really is a fetching little girl: We also had an exciting first on Saturday: Andie made her first deposit in her kiddy potty!  No active potty training going on in the Herilino house yet ... she just requested a diaper-free squat.  It was likely a fluke, but at least it meant one fewer poopy diaper over the weekend.

Bend

We had a spectacular visit to Bend, Oregon this past weekend to see friends Sean and Lauren. Andie was an excellent traveler, and slept for much of the 8.5 hr drive in both directions. We were very fortunate to borrow Papa's car, which was a much more comfortable ride in the 103°F heat than Kristin's or Jason's. Lauren and Sean prepared a delicious dinner for us when we got back to their house. On Saturday, we hiked the...

Eating and adventuring with friends

Having visitors generally means consuming calories and finding adventurous ways to burn them off (though, admittedly, not always equally). We were super lucky last weekend to have a visit from Kristin's dear friend, Rebecca, who was taking her colleague Philine on a tour of California. The consumption portion of the visit involved checking out the new scenery and delicious new menu at Gourmet au Bay. We took an obligatory trip to Howard's station, where Andie found all of her favorite items on the menu. We shared some chips and salsa. Andie got her own bowl of salsa, as she is prone to double-dipping. More? We shared some (non-alcoholic) ginger beer. Andie showed off her improving utensil skills. We shared some nice meals with Kristin's parents, including some amazing spinach and sage dumplings made by Rebecca and Philine. Good thing grandparents get a free pass to be a little nuts. Kristin ...
