Climbing

Andie has loved to climb ever since she learned to crawl. Now that she's even more mobile, she's regularly surprising Jason and Kristin with new heights -- over the back of the couch, out of the bathtub, on top of the sandbox -- she clearly can't wait for her first trip to the climbing gym!

Perhaps her love of climbing comes from Jason, who prefers to take the family to secluded beaches with the steepest access points, like this one they recently visited:

Just a little ways down there...

We made it down in one piece!

It was fun combing through the beach rack with Andie.

Kristin was excited about all the tiny bull kelp fronds on the beach -- better if they were still attached underwater, but at least there must be some recruitment happening after such a low kelp year!

Bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana)

So cute!

Even cuter!

Jason continued showing off his climbing skills at the beach.

Can you spot the Herilino?

Andie loved excavating the sand.

It was a wonderful hike, and we even all made it back up the cliff!

Post beach hike, Hawkeye had a rough couple of exercise-free weeks after getting a tumor removed from his chest, but he recovered well and his prognosis is good. He even got to sport Jason's SF Giants shirt for a few days so Andie wouldn't be too curious about his owie.

Andie took a trip to the polls with Kristin and bestowed great hope for the future amongst the electorate.

Kristin took a trip to Mexico to talk about abalone for days on end last week. While she missed her family deeply, she enjoyed some tasty tacos, some delicious margaritas, and she even got to meet a Mexican white abalone!

So excited about snails!

Everyone made sure to send her Kristin of updates while she was away.

Too cool for brakfast

Snoozes with Papa

Andie's buddy Shayne stopped by for a playdate. They chased bubbles, ...

... they played in the sand, ...

... and they splashed in the water.

Shayne shared some treats with Andie, ...

... and Andie shared some hose water with Shayne.

Kristin got the best sunggies from Andie when she returned home. They also took a pretty epic couch nap together.

While Kristin was in Mexico, some of her colleagues introduced her to Snapchat. She realizes she's super late to the game, but she's been having fun with it recently, especially by forcing it on Andie.

Snapchat thought Kristin's neck was another face.

Puppy face!

All done up and ready for breakfast...

Disturbing face swap between Kristin and Andie.

Andie showed off her fish face in drag:

Jason even got into the Snapchat game.

Technology is a hoot!

We celebrated Fathers Day at Nana and Papa's house. Andie enjoyed some of the Fathers Day cookies Nana made Jason.

Andie generously shared her cookies with Papa and others, but only after she conditioned them thoroughly.

Nana took some father/daughter portraits for us.

It's so nice to get to spend so many holidays with Nana and Papa!

It's even nicer to get to spend so many days between holidays with Nana and Papa. At the ramen bar last week, Andie showed off her love of strong flavors by requesting some pickled ginger from the server after she finished her noodles.

And just because there clearly isn't enough fun in this post already, here are some Slinkies, gold crowns, colanders, and pet store fish we've enjoyed recently.

In case there was any question about who rules the Herilino roost...

Clearly, the past three weeks have been much better for Team Herilino than they were for Jason's diving dummy, Oscar.

Deck reconstruction

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Making a plan Demo nearly completed Adding new boards Finishing up the new railing Breaking for beer and strawberries More demo-ing Kristin and Andie were a little scared for Uncle Joe up there on those narrow old boards! Turning a deck into a roof Andie even helped to finish it all off! Ha, just kidding!  That's Jason's Cabbage Patch doll up there. Did you really think Jason would carry the baby on the roof? Sheesh, what kind of parents do you think Kristin and Jason are? Jason and Elden This post was created especially for Nana and Grandma Jane. Our apologies for any adverse health effects it may have triggered.

Changes

There have been a lot of changes over the past six weeks in the Herilino household. Perhaps the biggest is that Nani and Papa moved out! We were so happy to take them in after the fire, and we are even happier that they have found a new place of their own to call home (especially because it isn't in Iowa). They are again just a short drive away in Santa Rosa, and they even promised to still babysit one day a week. Nani and Papa really enjoyed spreading out after being relegated to such tight quarters at the Herilino house. Although they didn't have too much stuff to move, Andie helped them unpack some of their new things. She liked how the packing material stuck to their clean windows. They don't have much in the way of furniture yet either, but Nani and Papa made sure Andie felt comfortable by stocking their house with new toys, a kid's table, and a potty seat. We are already having lots of fun hanging out there. Andie loved trying ou...

Pizza & ready to crawl

Andie added pizza to her list of foods yesterday, doing right by her New York family heritage. Kristin spent her first night away from Andie last night to throw a bachelorette party for Auntie Ellie. Everyone survived! Andie seems to be pretty close to crawling these days, making Kristin and Jason wonder if they're going to have to dedicate some time to better baby-proofing soon.
