Boston

Kristin, Jason, and Andie took a trip to Boston last weekend so Andie could meet Great-Grandpa A, Aunt Christine, and Uncle Tom.

Andie traveled like a champ! She was also the star of the show wherever we went. The flight attendant on the flight to Boston even gave Kristin and Jason Ghirardelli truffles because Andie was so sweet. Kristin and Jason think they'll have to travel with her more often if it means perks like extra chocolate.

Baby-ogling on the shuttle
In line for the rental car -- Andie is still happy after 10+ hours of traveling!

On Friday morning, our good friend Karen came to our hotel to visit. Kristin was apparently too jet-lagged to remember to take some photo documentation, which means Karen is just going to have to make sure to meet Andie again soon. It was so great to see her and catch up!

After meeting Karen, we went to visit Grandpa A at his assisted living facility. Andie loved meeting her great-grandfather!

Great hugs from Great-Grandpa

During Grandpa's tour of the facility, we came across this fun beach scene.

In Grandpa's apartment, we looked at old family photos and said hello to his budgie.

Grandpa also played some songs for us on his drum.

Andie found it very soothing.

Next we all went to Aunt Christine and Uncle Tom's, where we also met their adorable dog, Luca.

After dinner, we went to Lexington Green to listen to some live music.

Andie loved watching all of the people.

It was her first time experiencing green lawn.

Naturally, she wanted to know what it tasted like.

Mmmm, herbicides...

Andie had lots of fun dancing to the music with everyone.

We were so excited to meet Jarrett for Saturday brunch at the delicious Cafe Luna. It was wonderful to catch up with him, and we can't wait to meet his little one in a few weeks!

On Saturday afternoon, we went to Artbeat in Davis Square.

On Sunday morning, we went to the jazz brunch at Ryles.

Andie enjoyed dancing to the music.

In classic form, she also enjoyed snoozing to the music.

After brunch, we went to the Minute Man National Historical Park to learn about the start of the Revolutionary War.

At Hawthorne Tavern, Kristin, Uncle Tom, and Grandpa A learned how to be Minute Men.

It was hot and muggy at the North Bridge, where the first shots were fired.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

     - Concord Hymn, Ralph Waldo Emerson

It was a lot of history to take in for a four-month-old.

Sadly, after pizza at Bertucci's, it was time to say goodbye. We made way for goslings one our way back to the hotel.

Andie was a trooper again on the flight home, and started making friends at the airport as soon as we got there very early in the morning.

Everyone caught up on some rest during the flight.

Andie was excited to get home to see her puppy dog, but she misses everyone already! It was a lovely trip, and we hope to see everyone again soon.

Deck reconstruction

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Making a plan Demo nearly completed Adding new boards Finishing up the new railing Breaking for beer and strawberries More demo-ing Kristin and Andie were a little scared for Uncle Joe up there on those narrow old boards! Turning a deck into a roof Andie even helped to finish it all off! Ha, just kidding!  That's Jason's Cabbage Patch doll up there. Did you really think Jason would carry the baby on the roof? Sheesh, what kind of parents do you think Kristin and Jason are? Jason and Elden This post was created especially for Nana and Grandma Jane. Our apologies for any adverse health effects it may have triggered.

Changes

There have been a lot of changes over the past six weeks in the Herilino household. Perhaps the biggest is that Nani and Papa moved out! We were so happy to take them in after the fire, and we are even happier that they have found a new place of their own to call home (especially because it isn't in Iowa). They are again just a short drive away in Santa Rosa, and they even promised to still babysit one day a week. Nani and Papa really enjoyed spreading out after being relegated to such tight quarters at the Herilino house. Although they didn't have too much stuff to move, Andie helped them unpack some of their new things. She liked how the packing material stuck to their clean windows. They don't have much in the way of furniture yet either, but Nani and Papa made sure Andie felt comfortable by stocking their house with new toys, a kid's table, and a potty seat. We are already having lots of fun hanging out there. Andie loved trying ou...

Pizza & ready to crawl

Andie added pizza to her list of foods yesterday, doing right by her New York family heritage. Kristin spent her first night away from Andie last night to throw a bachelorette party for Auntie Ellie. Everyone survived! Andie seems to be pretty close to crawling these days, making Kristin and Jason wonder if they're going to have to dedicate some time to better baby-proofing soon.
