Happy birthday!

We celebrated Andie's first spin around the sun in style. Andie put on a fluffy dress from her friend Piper, and Nana bought her shoes to match.

We decked out the house with lots of photos from Andie's first year.

Prayer flags from Andie's baby shower

We were so lucky to have so many family and friends celebrate with us!

Andie enjoyed all the treats she got to eat during the day.

After a round of "Happy Birthday," Andie got to inhale her first ice cream sundae.

In addition to Andie's sweet indulgence, Kristin caved and let the birthday girl play with her phone.

The rain let up just enough to enjoy a little outdoor time.

Kristin couldn't help embellishing Andie's face with a candy from the cookie decorating station when she passed out at the end of the party.

After a brief rest, we headed over to the Union Hotel to continue the celebration with dinner and some birthday creme brulee.

For some reason, people thought Andie deserved some goodies for surviving Kristin and Jason as parents for an entire year, so we had fun opening gifts the next day.

So many reasons to celebrate!

Deck reconstruction

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Making a plan Demo nearly completed Adding new boards Finishing up the new railing Breaking for beer and strawberries More demo-ing Kristin and Andie were a little scared for Uncle Joe up there on those narrow old boards! Turning a deck into a roof Andie even helped to finish it all off! Ha, just kidding!  That's Jason's Cabbage Patch doll up there. Did you really think Jason would carry the baby on the roof? Sheesh, what kind of parents do you think Kristin and Jason are? Jason and Elden This post was created especially for Nana and Grandma Jane. Our apologies for any adverse health effects it may have triggered.

Changes

There have been a lot of changes over the past six weeks in the Herilino household. Perhaps the biggest is that Nani and Papa moved out! We were so happy to take them in after the fire, and we are even happier that they have found a new place of their own to call home (especially because it isn't in Iowa). They are again just a short drive away in Santa Rosa, and they even promised to still babysit one day a week. Nani and Papa really enjoyed spreading out after being relegated to such tight quarters at the Herilino house. Although they didn't have too much stuff to move, Andie helped them unpack some of their new things. She liked how the packing material stuck to their clean windows. They don't have much in the way of furniture yet either, but Nani and Papa made sure Andie felt comfortable by stocking their house with new toys, a kid's table, and a potty seat. We are already having lots of fun hanging out there. Andie loved trying ou...

Pizza & ready to crawl

Andie added pizza to her list of foods yesterday, doing right by her New York family heritage. Kristin spent her first night away from Andie last night to throw a bachelorette party for Auntie Ellie. Everyone survived! Andie seems to be pretty close to crawling these days, making Kristin and Jason wonder if they're going to have to dedicate some time to better baby-proofing soon.
