Snuggles and sniffles

One challenge of welcoming a second child into the world is that it's a little more difficult to keep germs out of the house. Andie brought home a nice head cold from daycare last week that we've all been passing around. Luckily it has spared Jack so far, but the rest of us went down pretty hard.

Kristin and Andie made popsicles to soothe their sore throats.

Kristin practiced some self care with some Harry Potter and throat coat tea.

Andie's version of self-care was getting a mani-pedi from Papa.

She did his hair while he painted her toes.

Andie also made sure to take lots of warm baths to help ease her aches and pains.

And we all did lots of napping. We even had times during the day when both kids were sleeping at the same time!

Can you spot three sleeping beasts in this photo?

With all of our time resting at home, it has been really nice having the Olympics on. It sure beats usual daytime television!

Andie really loves watching figure skating. She often dances around the living room as she watches, and during pairs skating she declares, "I want someone to lift me like that!"

Andie has been having fun in her new porch swing from one of Papa's cycling friends.

Jack met a few new people over the past week. Janet brought Andie home from daycare last Thursday so she could meet Jack. She's very excited to start watching him when he gets a little bigger!

We also had a lovely visit from Dennis and Juli.

Their dog, PD, seemed a little jealous of Jack.

Dennis and Juli brought dinner over with them, and Juli made the most delicious blueberry pie any of us have ever eaten.

Jack had his two-week appointment on the 15th. He is up to 8 lbs 3.7 oz, and has lost an inch in height due to his reduced cone head (he is now 20" long, as opposed to 21" when he was born). He enjoyed getting to help drop Andie off at daycare on the way to the doctor.

Andie was so proud to show off Baby Brother at daycare, and she looked so big in her Uncle Michael's old sunglasses!

Andie likes spending time in her top bunk and dreaming of when baby Jack is big enough to occupy the bottom so she can level up.

Overall, Andie has been doing a good job of adjusting to being a big sister. It's tough not getting as much attention from Kristin and Jason, and it's hard not to whine when you're not getting what you want. Hawkeye is also adjusting to having two younger siblings, and he's demanding some extra attention, especially from Nani.

Everyone is bing really good about including Andie and Hawkeye in their excitement over baby Jack. They are both getting big sibling gifts, like books and chew toys (respectively).

Andie and Kristin read a new Narwhal book from Ann Marie and Jeff.

Mostly, over the past week we just did lots of snuggling, and everyone took oodles of photos of baby Jack.

Deck reconstruction

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Making a plan Demo nearly completed Adding new boards Finishing up the new railing Breaking for beer and strawberries More demo-ing Kristin and Andie were a little scared for Uncle Joe up there on those narrow old boards! Turning a deck into a roof Andie even helped to finish it all off! Ha, just kidding!  That's Jason's Cabbage Patch doll up there. Did you really think Jason would carry the baby on the roof? Sheesh, what kind of parents do you think Kristin and Jason are? Jason and Elden This post was created especially for Nana and Grandma Jane. Our apologies for any adverse health effects it may have triggered.

Changes

There have been a lot of changes over the past six weeks in the Herilino household. Perhaps the biggest is that Nani and Papa moved out! We were so happy to take them in after the fire, and we are even happier that they have found a new place of their own to call home (especially because it isn't in Iowa). They are again just a short drive away in Santa Rosa, and they even promised to still babysit one day a week. Nani and Papa really enjoyed spreading out after being relegated to such tight quarters at the Herilino house. Although they didn't have too much stuff to move, Andie helped them unpack some of their new things. She liked how the packing material stuck to their clean windows. They don't have much in the way of furniture yet either, but Nani and Papa made sure Andie felt comfortable by stocking their house with new toys, a kid's table, and a potty seat. We are already having lots of fun hanging out there. Andie loved trying ou...

Pizza & ready to crawl

Andie added pizza to her list of foods yesterday, doing right by her New York family heritage. Kristin spent her first night away from Andie last night to throw a bachelorette party for Auntie Ellie. Everyone survived! Andie seems to be pretty close to crawling these days, making Kristin and Jason wonder if they're going to have to dedicate some time to better baby-proofing soon.
