Andie is three!

Andie turned three years old!

Andie loves playing make-believe, especially doctor, hygienist, and veterinarian. She likes to play with Legos, horses, and Barbies (few of which are allowed to wear clothes). She's great at independent play, but often exclaims, "I'm alooooone!" when she realizes she's the only person in a room and, "Talk to me!" when she isn't being paid enough attention.

She is really proud to be a big sister, but often she likes to pretend to be a baby. Lately, she likes to be "Baby Window." She enjoys making up names for babies/pets/etc. Some of her favorites are Amy, Emma, Elsa, and Eli. She also will name things after what she sees in front of her (Lemon, Wall, Lion, Window) or gobbledygook she makes up. She has known the name of the street she lives on for months, but insists on calling it “Occidental Amy Road.”

Push pops and popsicles (or "pastabowls") are her favorite desserts, and strawberry is her favorite ice cream flavor, especially if it’s from Screamin’ Mimi’s. She frequently cooks us food at her kitchen set (beware, she is likely to put black pepper in your water). She also loves to help Nani cook real dinner and bake.

She loves taking baths -- today she even took two! Her hair is always in her face, but she will only tolerate hair clips or ties for a few minutes at a time. She loves to paint her nails, put on lipstick, and wear Mom’s necklaces. She is almost always sporting one or two temporary tattoos.
She picks out her own outfits and especially loves wearing skirts and dresses, or nothing at all. She is never cold.

She has to flip her pillow over to the cool side several times before going to sleep at night. Often uttered bedtime phrases are, "'Nother book," "Please sing Corner" (Return to Pooh Corner),
"Please sing "Nection" (Rainbow Connection), "Pet me," and "I'm not tired." She loves having Hawkeye's bed in her room.

Her favorite activity at the park is to swing really high. Her favorite color is green, and her favorite songs are "Pots and Pans" by the Bacon Brothers and "I Need a Nap" by Weird Al and Kate Winslet. Barley and Hops is still her favorite restaurant, and lately she has been ordering the fish 'n' chips, but mostly eating bread from other people's sandwiches.

She is bright, caring, and funny. Kristin and Jason couldn't be more proud of her or amazed by the incredible person she is.

We had a party on Saturday to celebrate Andie's birthday. We had over 50 people at the house, and of course Andie was most excited about playing with Tashi.

She had fun finding new ways to accessorize her dress throughout the day.

Andie wanted cupcakes with gummy bears and green frosting for her birthday, and Nani made an extra special big cupcake just for Andie.

It was clear that the gummy bears and frosting were really the only parts of the cupcake she cared about.

Tashi also got a special chocolate cupcake.

Lots of family came to the party to celebrate Andie and meet Jack. We of course failed to photograph most of them, but we caught a couple!

Andie was very excited about all the gifts she got for her birthday. She loved this Road Rug from Tashi.

Jack also liked the Road Rug, and practiced some tummy time on it.

Andie got a mermaid tail to wear over her legs ...

... and butterfly puppets to wear over her fingers.

She was so excited about the skirt from neighbor Delia she insisted on putting it on immediately.

Hawkeye had to be seen right away with the veterinarian kit from Patricia, Scott, and Shayne. He has been getting thorough and frequent checkups ever since.

Andie was excited to wear the frog dress from Aunt Sarah to daycare on Tuesday. It was a little chilly out, so we had to cover up the top with a sweater.

Kristin was really excited when she realized that she and Jack were also wearing frogs that day! Frogtastic!

Andie has enjoyed getting gifts in the mail, too, like this lovely book about biodiversity from Ann Marie and Jeff.

Jack is doing great despite continuing to have the sniffles here and there. He does a great job sleeping in his bassinet in between feeding at night, and he's a very relaxed baby during the day. He's doing a good job of drinking expressed milk from a bottle, but he still likes Mom best.

Jack is doing a good job at tummy time. After a fluke flip at 5 days, he has lately been fairly regularly flipping himself from front to back on his left side. Of course, we are yet to catch a video of it.

It has been fairly rainy lately, but we took the opportunity during a break in the rain today to visit Gold Coast Coffee & Bakery.

Andie loves saying hello to the kitty cats there.

There were some good puddles in the parking lot to jump in.

Deck reconstruction

The deck attached to the Herilino Annex was rotting away, so Uncle Chuck visited again to help give it an overhaul. Uncle Joe and cousin Karen generously helped out, and baby Andie even chipped in! Making a plan Demo nearly completed Adding new boards Finishing up the new railing Breaking for beer and strawberries More demo-ing Kristin and Andie were a little scared for Uncle Joe up there on those narrow old boards! Turning a deck into a roof Andie even helped to finish it all off! Ha, just kidding!  That's Jason's Cabbage Patch doll up there. Did you really think Jason would carry the baby on the roof? Sheesh, what kind of parents do you think Kristin and Jason are? Jason and Elden This post was created especially for Nana and Grandma Jane. Our apologies for any adverse health effects it may have triggered.

Changes

There have been a lot of changes over the past six weeks in the Herilino household. Perhaps the biggest is that Nani and Papa moved out! We were so happy to take them in after the fire, and we are even happier that they have found a new place of their own to call home (especially because it isn't in Iowa). They are again just a short drive away in Santa Rosa, and they even promised to still babysit one day a week. Nani and Papa really enjoyed spreading out after being relegated to such tight quarters at the Herilino house. Although they didn't have too much stuff to move, Andie helped them unpack some of their new things. She liked how the packing material stuck to their clean windows. They don't have much in the way of furniture yet either, but Nani and Papa made sure Andie felt comfortable by stocking their house with new toys, a kid's table, and a potty seat. We are already having lots of fun hanging out there. Andie loved trying ou...

Pizza & ready to crawl

Andie added pizza to her list of foods yesterday, doing right by her New York family heritage. Kristin spent her first night away from Andie last night to throw a bachelorette party for Auntie Ellie. Everyone survived! Andie seems to be pretty close to crawling these days, making Kristin and Jason wonder if they're going to have to dedicate some time to better baby-proofing soon.
